About the Century Club Series

Lionel produced Century Club items in limited quantities and only sold them to Lionel Century Club Members who had to pay a membership fee in advance to be eligible to purchase Century Club items.

History of the Turbine

Lionel first introduced the 671 in 1946 when the actual steam engine was still in service pulling the Broadway Limited. The real S-2 turbine was built by Baldwin in 1944 and weighed in at 501 tons. The engine was nicknamed "Big Swoosh". The turbine was made for high speed efficiency, and so it did not perform as well at lower speeds. Because of this, diesels soon passed this engine by, and in 1949, it was scrapped.

Don't miss this set for your collections. Thanks.
