Rare 1937 Lionel 700E 4-6-4 Scale Hudson w/ 700W TenderIn my opinion, here is the ultimate Lionel prewar "O" gauge Steam Engine. Mention the New York Central Railroad's "Hudson" locomotive 5344, and most collectors think of this train. Here is the 1937 version of the Lionel No. 700E Locomotive with its 700W Tender. Black zinc ally die-cast superstructure, nickel plates, rubber stamped "5344" below the windows and on the headlight. 14-1/8". NEW YORK CENTRAL on the tender. I believe that all the pictures below show the condition of this engine well. Overall, a very nice set. This is the 1074th 700E that came off the Lionel assembly line in 1937- Serial number 011074. Condition notes: First, the engine runs well in both forward and reverse. Nice and straight frame with the cow catcher about an 3/8 of an inch above the third rail, and a little lower on a tubular track. The castings looks nice and sturdy. Original paint and strong graphics on the sides (see pics). Original drawbar pin. I do see that in the back, where the drawbar goes into the frame, it is in a "U" rather than an"O" (see pics). The Tender overall looks nice, however, it has a warp to the shell on one side (see pics). It has its original paint and stamping. Tender whistled when put on the track. A great set of rare Lionel trains. Don't miss this one, and please ask any questions. Thanks. Price: $2500 SORRY! SOLD! |
